Disaster Risk Reduction in Central & East Africa

Knowledge-Sharing Platform

Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is seen as critical in supporting initiatives by communities and governments efforts in the region to reduce vulnerability of the populations at risk. This website is a knowledge-sharing platform for all partners committed to building resilience of local communities in Central & East Africa.

Empowerment

Our approach means that everyone involved with Oxfam, from our staff and supporters to people living in poverty, should feel they can make change happen.

Inclusiveness

We are open to everyone and embrace diversity. We believe everyone has a contribution to make, regardless of visible and invisible differences.

Accountability

Our purpose-driven, results-focused approach means we take responsibility for our actions and hold ourselves accountable. We believe that others should also be held accountable for their actions.

Platform Features

Data = Relief

Communities in East and Central Africa are regularly confronted by a combination of complex disasters, often resulting in loss of lives, assets and livelihoods. Disasters weaken the social support systems and substantially erode development gains. Natural hazards (such as drought and floods); crop and livestock diseases; civil conflict; unstable markets and/or volatile food prices; gender inequalities and HIV are examples of both natural or human-induced disasters.

The ultimate objective of the website is to:

•   Manage knowledge and information

•   Provide guidance

•   Enhance coordination

•   Share good practices, case studies and lessons learnt
